This boning knife was initially designed to break down game in the field. The blade on this iteration flows well into a large Wa style handle with slightly tapered sides. The blade is stiff, with a fine point and a lot of belly. The ricasso/choil configuration is meant to make it easy to sharpen on a flat stone.
